Last week on his show Bill O’Reilly asked, “Why has southern New York turned into the tundra?” and then said he had a call into me. I appreciate the question.

As it turns out, the scientific community has been addressing this particular question for some time now and they say that increased heavy snowfalls are completely consistent with what they have been predicting as a consequence of man-made global warming:

“In fact, scientists have been warning for at least two decades that global warming could make snowstorms more severe. Snow has two simple ingredients: cold and moisture. Warmer air collects moisture like a sponge until it hits a patch of cold air. When temperatures dip below freezing, a lot of moisture creates a lot of snow.”

“A rise in global temperature can create all sorts of havoc, ranging from hotter dry spells to colder winters, along with increasingly violent storms, flooding, forest fires and loss of endangered species.”

After 10+ years of I.T. Recruiting for 2 different Staffing Agencies I took a chance in May of 2009 and joined a firm as an HR Specialist / Corporate Recruiter.

One which sounded really good in the write-up was “Believe in Me”; a High School sports, feel good, root for the underdog, based partially on a true story, rated PG, Family Movie!

All of the above turned out to be true, but the $14.98 reduced to $4.98 price tag should have been a warning.

The Christian worldview was not presented, and in retrospect, quite the opposite was true. Unlike “Facing the Giants”, and other great family movies, “Believe in Me” was not a story which accentuated the positive, nor did it focus on the faith of the players or the coach or the townspeople.

In hindsight, it seems the writers or producers were intent on paying back a debt from a long ago grudge.

Strangely, in the extra features, the Coach and several of the Players from the 1965 team are interviewed and shown interacting with the stars of the movie. There was not even a hint of the anger or the bitterness towards the authorities that was portrayed in the movie.

In the write up it states:  “….An inspiring tale of perseverance, character, and redemption – based on a true story!” Perseverance, …maybe; character…lacking at almost every turn; redemption… a better word would be revenge!

Bruce Dern plays the part of School Board Chair and head of the local political machine, with a 6 generation claim to ruling over the town, the school, and whatever else he chooses. His character speaks harshly throughout the movie, and is intent on ruling by intimidation. We found ourselves, based on our ill-informed anticipation, waiting for his character to soften and finally “see the light”, or at least see good in someone or something. The worst part of the movie came right at the climax, when the girls basketball team had come from behind at the buzzer to win the State Championship, and Dern’s character makes his way onto the court to inform the coach he would be fired come Monday morning, and the Title would be forfeited. You are not even allowed 1 minute to enjoy the victory!

If you agree with the adage (known as “Barker’s Rule): Don’t ask what’s ‘wrong’ with it; ask what’s ‘right’ with it; then you should steer clear of “Believe in Me”.

There is little, if anything, of redeeming value in this movie. The few scenes that show positive interactions are  far out-shadowed by the many, many scenes that focus on anger, hatred, and indifference.

Our copy made it to the trashcan less than 24 hours after it arrived in the mail.

The Work-At-Home (WAH) phenomenon is certainly not new, but in tough economic times, more and more people look for ways to supplement their anemic incomes, which just can’t keep up with rising costs. (not to offend anyone – but who really wants to work a second or part-time job in retail or in some service-oriented business for an hourly rate or tips?)

I have owned and operated several small businesses; some pretty successful, and some not so successful.

Even with years of experience and resources I can count on, it is still very time consuming and sometimes expensive to get an enterprise up and running.
Personally, if there were a few resources I could trust to help me get started, and then to be there along the way for added advice or expertise, I would be willing to take a serious look at that opportunity.

Robert Kiyosaki wrote in his book, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” that you should have ready access to training materials when you start your own business.

I am not sure just how much information I can publish in this blog, but my goal is to provide links and information to help anyone decide which type of home business to pursue and build, and where to find training!

I mean, just thinking about a domain name can be daunting to some people.
There was a time when I owned over 400 domain names, and some of them were pretty impressive. (at least I thought so!) But after holding onto them for 2 years and not reselling even one, I started to let them expire, and now I am down to 20.
When I logged on to the Reseller today to grab a new domain name for this Blog and the affiliated .com website, they now have “Premium” Domain names for sale for hundreds or thousands of dollars.
I know there are people out there making money buying, selling, and renting Domain Names, but I just couldn’t get that business going.
I have a friend who is a “full-time” eBay guru. He actually makes a living and supports his family buying and selling stuff on eBay. Man, I wish I could figure that out! Maybe I’ll get him to relinquish a few trade secrets and have a new blog post for anyone interested in trying eBay or something similar.

Whatever your career or profession today, you will interface with others who rely on the Internet to conduct business. If you drive a truck, your shippers and customers are most likely ordering goods and tracking their movement electronically. If you are an Attorney or a Doctor, data and document management must be handled online for maximum efficiency. Even as a stay-at-home Mom or Dad, research for the children’s homework assignments, or the latest recipe for dinner or dessert starts with your favorite Search Engine!

The decision today is: Do I allow technology to drive me, or do I utilize technology as a vehicle to get me where I want to go?

Am I a passenger on the Technology Train, or am I the driver or conductor using technology as a vehicle to take me places quickly and more efficiently?

If you prefer to chart your own course, rather than being forced to follow along, then you should embrace technology and establish an Internet presence.

Think about it!

As a truck driver, you are a conduit between customer and supplier. You are the “Internet” in that transaction! (That’s why it is called the Information Super “Highway”) Doesn’t it make sense to become a partner in the process? An Internet presence can open up additional opportunities for your trucking business, for your Law or Medical Practice, or for Networking with other stay-at-home parents with similar challenges and desires!

Imagine your customer or shipper logging onto the Internet to choose which Delivery Service to select. With the right website and SEO / Advertising strategy, you can greatly increase the chances that your Service will be one of the first recommendations offered. Conversely, what are the chances you will be called when 2 or 3 competitors offer online access to rates and schedules? The same concept applies, regardless of your Profession or Avocation.

As part of the “Become Known” series of Articles, this is Part 1 of “Establishing an Internet (or Online) Presence.

If you agree with the need to develop an online presence, and if you have the desire to do what it takes, but just don’t know where to start; or if you are frustrated because you don’t enjoy the fact that you are forced online more and more just to conduct every day transactions, then you are sure to relate to, and benefit from this series.
